Water pipe upgrade in Constantia Kloof

The project to upgrade water pipes in Constantia Kloof gets under way.

Construction is currently underway in Constantia Kloof to replace and upgrade water pipes. Residents have been plagued by water outages and frequent pipe bursts in the area.

Louis Pretorius, community liaison officer for the WPR project in Constantia Kloof said it had been a slow start for the project but the first pipes were set to be laid on Friday, 7 May. The contract duration is expected to be four months.

Site investigations were done by Johannesburg Water Engineering Services Unit, to assess the project site and ensure that the scope of work was adequately understood and measured. It comprises the replacement of existing 100mm diameter steel pipes with 110mm uPVC pipes, 75mm steel pipes with 110mm uPVC, and 110mm steel pipes with 110mm uPVC pipes by means of the conventional open-trench method, as well as the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) construction method on major road crossings.
