No-show at CPF community meeting has stakeholders worried
The absence of residents has sparked fresh appeals for greater community participation in local safety discussions.
A community engagement meeting planned by the Honeydew CPF for Sector 4, covering the Zandspruit area, was called off on Saturday, August 15, after no community members attended.
According to Honeydew CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn, the meeting was scheduled to allow residents to raise concerns, share local information and engage with the CPF and law enforcement agencies on community safety matters.
Steyn said the meeting was called off about 30 minutes later.

He said the meetings provide an opportunity for residents to have their voices heard and share information about challenges in their communities.
“Community safety cannot be achieved by one organisation alone,” Steyn said, emphasising the importance of co-operation between residents, the CPF, police, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), security companies and other stakeholders.
Steyn thanked JMPD Region C representatives for making themselves available and attending the meeting. He also acknowledged the continued support of Honeydew Police Station management for community engagement initiatives.
He encouraged residents in Sector 4 and Zandspruit to attend future meetings and participate in discussions about community safety.
“Even one resident speaking up can help highlight an issue that may otherwise go unnoticed,” Steyn said.
The CPF said residents’ participation is important in helping identify local concerns and areas where attention and resources may be needed.
