Businesses and residential properties in Muldersdrift were plagues by robberies this past weekend. On 29 May, a business was robbed when an armed person entered the premises and pointed a firearm at the owner. According to Muldersdrift Police’s communications officer, Sergeant Mulalo Ndou, the victim was counting money for her employees when she was confronted by the robber. “The thug took money amounting to around R70 000,” he said.
In a separate incident, three men entered a house where they startled the owner by brandishing firearms. The perpetrators then ransacked the house and stole an unknown amount of valuables. Ndou said no injuries were reported in any of the two incidents. “Investigations are still proceeding in both cases. None of the suspects have been caught.”
Muldersdrift Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mankhontsho Setlhare advised business owners to take precautions when opening and closing their businesses.
• Consider installing panic buttons on your business property.
• Don’t keep large sums of cash or valuables in your house or place of business.
• Be discreet when counting cash and doing bank deposits.
• Maintain visibility throughout the store.
