Law enforcement swoops down in Zandspruit

Police clamp down on criminal activity during Operation Okae Molao in Zandspruit.

MEC for community safety, Faith Mazibuko and law enforcement swooped down on Zandspruit during an Operation Okae Molao to clamp down on criminal activity and trace undocumented foreigners.

During the operation on June 12, Mazibuko said statistics from this quarter would show whether Operation Okae Molao was yielding positive results. “We hope that those incidents that had happened will be an eye-opener as to whether social ills are part and parcel of the contributors to crime in Zandspruit. This integrated law-enforcement operation will ensure that crimes that are committed are actually attended to.”

The operations included officials from JMPD, the Department of Home Affairs, and members of the police. Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela said they would be focusing on two areas – Zandspruit and Cosmo City.

“Tonight, we brought the might of the state and we’ll ensure that criminals in this particular area will be removed by us. We started on a positive note; one of the wanted suspects whom we circulated yesterday is already behind bars.” Mawela issued a stern warning to criminals at large, particularly the one he only referred to as ‘Dube’. “Dube, wherever you are, you better hand yourself in because the net is gradually closing on you. We are hot on your heels and we are going to get you very soon.”
