Another postponement of the Zandspruit mob killings bail application

Friends and families of the deceased gathered outside the court and expressed dismay over what they described as delaying tactics by the Defence.

The bail application hearing for the suspects implicated in the brutal Zandspruit mob justice attack was held in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 23 after it was postponed on Wednesday, 9 June.

The matter was once again postponed to August 3 after the Defence indicated that they were not ready to proceed, leaving the court with no option but to present the Defence with another opportunity to prepare.

One family member whose identity cannot be published revealed to the Northsider that the screams of pain and anguish will forever be embedded in her mind as the horrible ordeal can never fade away.

Eight young men were killed in an open field in Zandspruit on May 24. The ninth victim survived the ordeal, and was discharged from hospital recently and is recovering at home.

The men were assaulted by about 200 angry community members after they had accused the men, aged between 20 and 30, of terrorising the area and being behind a series of crimes.
