
Joy Legodi-Zimba, ANC local government elections candidate councillor for Ward 85, recently answered questions regarding the upcoming elections.
Here are some questions the candidate had answered:
Q: What would you do differently to the current ward councillor?
A: Once appointed I will give my service to everybody in the ward irrespective of their party affiliation.
Q: How have you been involved in the community?
A: As a member of the community, I have on numerous occasions, referred community water and high billing challenges to relevant municipal departments. I have assisted at local level, particularly in my street, with electricity problems, drawing them to the attention of the relevant MMC who would deploy people to come and resolve the matter.
Q: What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?
A: Being a resident of Horison for the past 21 years, I have been exposed and witnessed incidents such as crime, and water and power cuts in the area. I have experienced potholes and unevenly surfaced roads. I have served as a teacher and local education district official (IDSO) for the past 30 years in the Johannesburg West district.
Q: What is your vision for your ward?
A: • Pledging to build better municipal services to all communities and deliver better service. Assist in dealing with high billings and crime in all areas
• To be part of policing programmes, campaigns for crime prevention, communicate with relevant departments to fast-track the housing backlog, education, and employment
• Assisted in championing service deliver (electricity, water, sanitation, sewerage, and roads)
• To see that all potholes are filled, roads resurfaced, and pavements fixed. Maintenance of parks. Restoration and rehabilitation of neglected areas (Princess squatter camp and Little Falls informal area) and other facilities
Q: How do you feel this vision can be achieved?
A: Through proper communication channels, visible in all areas. To call community meetings to inform residents of all developments and projects from different municipal departments for the ward.
Q: How does your party mirror your personal beliefs?
A: My party undertook a vigorous process of selecting candidates with competence, and capabilities, and were satisfied that I have met the criteria and have relevant skills required
Q: In 50 words or less, tell the residents of your ward why they should vote for you.
A: The people should vote for me because I am determined, as an ANC councillor, to make a difference in the lives of my community. I want to serve them. I will see to it that the state of our roads improves, that our parks and open areas are taken care of.
