On November 1 community members far and wide made their way to the voting stations to have their say in the municipal elections. The queues of eager, nervous and hopeful voters wound and waved around the corners as they waited to make their mark.

The elderly and pregnant voters waited in separate lines, and at most voting stations all social distancing protocols were observed and sanitizing were done.

Several voters complained about being redirected to voting stations other than the one where they had registered, and in some cases names were recorded manually as a number of registered voters’ details did not appear on the system. In the end many residents exercised their democratic right by voting to have a say in their local government.

By Monday night, eight million voters had done their civic duty, and the wait for the final results to become available had started.
