Courier vehicle robbed on Monday morning in Roodekrans

Residents urged to increase vigilance as the festive season approaches

In the coming weeks, vigilance and awareness are needed to guard against vulnerability.

Two incidents of theft, one armed, occurred within a few hundred metres of each other on Monday, November 15. A courier vehicle driver was robbed at gunpoint in Withaak Avenue while later in the afternoon, a jogger was mugged at the corner of Salvia Street and Belladonna Road.

Cameras from a property on Withaak Street filmed armed thugs in a white Audi hatchback approaching an unmarked courier vehicle at roughly 09:00. The men stole several packages from the courier vehicle, locking the driver in the back of his vehicle before fleeing the scene. Later in the afternoon, at roughly 15:00, three men accosted a jogger, making off with their victim’s cellphone.

With the festive period almost upon us, the seasonal surge in crime is an inevitability. Residents receiving valuable home deliveries are asked to communicate with their security companies or neighbourhood watch. Those enjoying the freedom of their suburb’s streets are urged not to display or carry valuables unnecessarily and to report any suspicious behaviour to their security company, neighbourhood watch or the police’s Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
