For the past two weeks Chris Joubert has had to contend with an unsightly mess that was left by municipal workers.

According to Chris he reported a water leak on his sidewalk to the municipality around November 8.
“I had to wait about two weeks before they came out to address the issue. They only showed up and reinstated the water pipes on Sunday, November 21,” he explained.
Even though he is grateful that the leak had been fixed, he is not as grateful about the awful mess the workers left behind.
“When it rains, the mud flushes over the sidewalk leaving a huge mud pool in the road. This is especially dangerous as it happens right around a corner which means that motorists don’t necessarily expect it. They can easily lose control of their vehicle. The workers also damaged the curb and it doesn’t look like they have any intention of repairing it,” he said.

Chris, who has been living there for the past 10 years said this was the second time a water leak has had to be repaired on his sidewalk.
He also expressed his concerns about a water leak on the corner of Abbot Street and Ontdekkers Road which he reported on the same day he reported the leak on his sidewalk. Unfortunately the issue hasn’t been attended to yet.
“Why do you have to ask the municipality to clean up their mess? Cleaning up should be part of the service. Isn’t this what we, as taxpayers, pay for?” he said.
On Tuesday, November 30 he reported the shoddy work to DA councillor, Leah Knott who confirmed that the issue had been escalated to Joburg Water and the Joburg Water Regional Manager.
