Let us dedicate this festive season to rediscovering our equilibrium
Merry Christmas and may 2022 bring all the greatness deserved
Jarryd Westerdale, Record journalist writes:
Milestones and the holidays that surround them are special because they remind us of what has come before and what can still be.
In the days and months between, we lose and we gain, we learn and we evolve. Nothing is static and the uncertainty of impermanence is a bringer of fear, joy and a reverence of the horrors and beauty of life. A path to happiness is the finding of a mental and emotional equilibrium that does not sway too far in the extreme, but creates a rational understanding that accepts the good and the bad.
With a growing sense of chaos around the world, the average Joes and Janes are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain an equilibrium. Opinions are polarised and reactions are extreme, degrading both reactionary and opposing side. Some may say the issues that cause these reactions of insult and ridicule are of such great importance that only a specific course of action is required, but nothing in life is absolute.
Much of this lack of equilibrium is rooted in a stubborn refusal to meet your perceived opponent in the middle. Have members of society become so immoveable on their stances that they would forego their humanity and pursue a path of destruction, simply to avoid having to admit defeat? Individual acts often affect the collective but does the collective not flourish when it respects the individual?
Similarly, the holidays are a two-part celebration working hand in hand. Christmas is the celebration of what we have and New Year’s Eve is a celebration of what we want. Show love and appreciation for your families this Christmas and celebrate the new year with the vigour and energy you wish to invite into your life for the next twelve months. Embrace them both and do so in the spirit that restores equilibrium.
