Motorists on Christiaan de Wet Road are still dodging potholes only to be stuck in congested traffic caused by traffic lights that are not working. Kelebogile Mahape from Gauteng Provincial Road and Transport had said earlier the repairs on the road would start on Monday, January 31; however, that did not materialise.

Several motorists have expressed their frustration driving on Christiaan de Wet Road as morning and afternoon peak-hour traffic has become a nightmare. Vehicles swerving to avoid the many potholes combined with traffic lights from Clearwater Mall all the way up to Papachinos not working have them at their wits’ end.

Drivers expressed their frustrations on social media. Bronwyn Mandich wrote, “The traffic lights don’t work and the roads are full of potholes. What do we pay taxes for?” Leonie Botha said, “It is disgusting how we pay taxes regularly and no services are delivered. Including traffic lights.”

Mahape responded to the Roodepoort Northsider and said the potholes would be attended to before the end of the week.
