Rumours Rock City on a hunt for the music scene’s next best thing

Battle for Rumours competition launched to uncover some rough diamonds

The lights along the pathway to rock stardom radiate for those who dare to dream.

From late March, Rumours Rock City will be scouring the landscape in a search for new hot talent as musical maestros of all kinds will be given the chance to take the Rumours stage in the hope that they can ignite that one spark that illuminates the imagination. The Horizon View rock venue is launching their Battle for Rumours Band Challenge nights and is summoning any musical artist to step up to the mic.

For two nights every week, the aspirational and persuadable will have up to an hour to rock the Rumours faithful. Tuesday evenings will belong to the acoustic aces while Wednesday night is for the electric and drumkit-crushing bands to strut their stuff. Any genre is welcome and the crowd crowns the night’s best band with weekly and monthly prizes before a grand final at the end of the year.

“We are always looking for new undiscovered talent, from school level up to and including varsities. We believe in building the music scene by giving the artists a stage to perform on in front of an audience,” said Rumours Rock City manager and events coordinator, Duane Marais. Each evening can accommodate at least four acts and slots, starting at 20:00, can be pre-booked through Duane.

With each act booked in advance, Duane and Rumours Rock City will put the act’s names out on their social media wires, alerting the followers of the emerging great sets to take the stage. “We all have a passion for something in life so let’s support the local music scene and help the artists grow in their passion for music. There are truly talented artists in South Africa; let’s build it together,” said Duane.

Other that the upcoming weekly Battle for Rumours evenings, Rumours Rock City has a host of the finest musical talent on the cards. Capetonian garage-punk band The Medicine Dolls are scheduled for March 25 while eclectic reggae-punk legends Fuzigish tear up the stage on April 2. Pocket-friendly drinks specials keep everything lubricated, so for Battle for Rumours slot bookings, contact Duane on 072 449 5689 or duane.marais@leapfrog.co.za.
