Motorists can now resume their motor vehicle compliance endeavours.
Nine City of Johannesburg Licensing Stations that were affected by protest action are now fully operational. The two-week closure was as a result of protests by various groups and members of the community after the Gauteng Provincial Government had made changes to the driver’s licence and testing booking system. The changes blocked third party agents from booking services on behalf of individuals or groups.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation and Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport were granted an interdict against the National Driving School Association of South Africa as well protestors. The interdict prohibits any disruptions within 150 metres of any Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) as well as any calls for the support or encouragement of unlawful behaviour toward the property or staff of the DLTCs.
The following DLTCs are fully operational with immediate effect:
– Midrand Licensing Centre in Region A
– Strijdom Park Testing Station in Region B
– Roodepoort City Hall and Florida DLTC in Region C
– Dube Vocational Licence Department in Region D; however its telephone lines are presently down
– Region E Licensing Department
– Langlaagte Licensing Department, Ormonde Licensing Centre and Eureka House in Region F
– Kliptown Licensing Department in Region G has been closed for several months due to a burglary, and remains closed
