Sandkiaat Street water leak continues
A water leak that has been ongoing for almost two weeks is a cause for serious concern.
A water leak outside number 8 Sandkiaat Street has reportedly been flowing continuously since May 18.
The Roodepoort Northsider visited the site with Ward 89 councillor Zander Shawe on May 29, where water could be seen bubbling through the tar and flowing down the street.
According to Shawe, the matter was reported to Johannesburg Water (JW) on May 18, but no repairs had been carried out at the time of the visit.

During the inspection, Shawe used a cup with a capacity of about 350ml to estimate the leak’s flow rate. Based on his calculations, the leak was releasing about seven litres of water per minute.
“The leak has been going on for 11 days now. If the estimate is accurate, about 10 000 litres of water could be wasted every day. Over 11 days, this would amount to more than 110 000 litres of water,” he said.
Shawe added that the ongoing leak is raising concerns about water wastage and possible damage to the road if it is not repaired.

Questions were sent to JW regarding the delay in repairing the leak, whether a repair team had been assigned to the matter, and when the issue was expected to be resolved.
The entity acknowledged receipt of the enquiry and said a response would be provided once information had been obtained from the relevant department.
No further feedback had been received at the time of publication.
