NG Welfare to host first Golf Day

As the Welfare is considered the 'Cinderellas' of social services, they struggle to access enough funding to assist the children at risk.

NG Welfare Krugersdorp and NG Welfare Roodepoort are hosting their first Spring Golf Day at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate on Thursday, September 1.

According to NG Welfare supervisor Helena Burke the success of the event will rely on the involvement of the players and the sponsors.

“What we need most are players to commit themselves on September 1. NG Welfare Roodepoort and Krugersdorp are so-called child-protection organisations,” she said.

“Our services include assessment of children to see where input is necessary, therapy to give them the tools to deal with trauma, services to keep families together, mediation to let children have their parents involved in their lives in a positive sense, and if alternative care is required to ensure that the best placement is found.”

The funds raised will greatly help the welfare organisations to assist the children at risk.

The particulars of the day are as follows:

Enter a four-ball (R4 000 per four-ball) which includes:
• Golf carts
• Halfway house
• Dinner
• Great prizes
• Auction

You can also:
• Sponsor a Par 3: R1 500
• Sponsor any other hole: R1 000

The sponsor may set up marketing materials on tee box (table, gazebo, banners etc). Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks may be offered.

Sponsor prize options:
• Four-ball alliance (prizes in denominations of 4)
• Longest drive
• Nearest to the pin on Par 3s
• Cash donations

All sponsors will be acknowledged. Should sponsors have any other requests on brand advertising on the day, they are urged to communicate with the organisers of the event.

“Our clients are the children at risk, and we actually work with the ‘faceless’, as a friend of the organisation once called the children. We cannot divulge information that could identify the children or their circumstances. We can however share some of our successes with you,” Burke said.

These successes include the following:
• A parent decides to address her substance abuse and her children are restored in her care after they were removed from her care.
• A child in foster care is one of the top 10 achievers in his school during his matric year as a result of the encouragement of his foster parents. He attends university.
• Parents that came to hate one another, take part in mediation and realise that they need to deal with their past relationship to serve the best interest of their children.
• A child that was removed from her parents’ care due to the abuse the parents perpetrated came back as an adult to thank the social worker for saving her.
• A parent rejects her daughter, and a well-meaning foster family is in the process to adopt her.

“As we are considered the ‘Cinderellas’ of the social services, we struggle to access enough funding to assist our children. That’s why we are calling on all community members to come and support the cause,” Burke concluded.
