New charity-based hiking group walking the trail for a better Florida
Founded by lovers of hiking, the group held a launch hike at Florida Lake
Active residents are getting their hearts beating for the betterment of others.

Founded by eight avid hikers with a common desire to improve the world around them, Footprint Hikers are stretching their legs for the hard yards. Officially established on August 7 but having been hiking for good causes for months already, the group’s sole purpose is raising funds for worthy community causes.

With two charity hikes already completed, Footprint Hikers had their launch breakfast hike around Florida Lake, August 20. Beginning and ending at The Net and dressed in red, the hikers worked up their appetites before a delicious breakfast at the Green Street establishment. The launch walk was about catching the eye of the Florida community but the work done and planned speaks for itself.

In June, the hikers raised funds for a young boy who was diagnosed with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia when just seven months old. Now visually impaired, the funds raised went to the boy’s treatment, walking aid, guide dog and the schooling. Earlier in August, Footprint Hikers then raised funds towards a man’s prosthetic limb and on September 10, they will be hiking at Kloofendal Nature Reserve for a young girl diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
“We identified the opportunity to raise funds by doing what we love – hiking. We aim to improve the lives of others in order for them to reach their full potential and to ease the burdens of individuals in these difficult post-pandemic times,” said Footprint Hiker’s Natashia McPherson, adding that they are keen to attract volunteers and partners who are passionate about helping others achieve common goals. Natahsia summed up the simplicity of their mission, saying “We strive to make a difference one step at a time”.
