Reinvigorated Honeydew Residents Association holds successful meet and greet

Cold drinks and braai day aimed at putting faces to WhatsApp names

Tranquil surroundings by day, potential danger lurking by night.

Under the guidance of newly elected chairman, Izak van Rooyen, Honeydew Residents Association (HRA) held a meet and greet braai on September 10.

The cold drinks and boerewors rolls created the perfect opportunity for residents to familiarise themselves with their neighbours.

“Lots of people know the name on the WhatsApp group, now they can put a face to the name,” laughed Van Rooyen.

The fresh impetus comes from an identified need to create a stronger security network in the area. HRA’s immediate goals will be to streamline communications between residents, security forces and municipal entities.

Noting that what was in place was sporadic and disjointed, Van Rooyen said, “All structures are in place but we do not have sufficient lines of communication open yet. We got a big area but the population size is sparse.”

HRA serves the residents between Johan Road and Cypress Road, as well as Beyers Naude Drive and the area around Chestnut Road.

To beef up on-the-ground resources, EC Security has been appointed their dedicated service provider and will assist to curbe the threat of cable theft, housebreakings and petty theft from properties.

Rising from a spontaneous patrolled group, HRA now is taking purposeful action with intent.
