UPDATE: Muldersdrift tiger investigation still ongoing

The tiger has been a topic of conversation in the Muldersdrift area ever since residents noticed it being transported last week.

Authorities are still investigating the case of a young male tiger allegedly being kept in less than ideal conditions in the Muldersdrift area.

After rigorous investigation and requests for comment, it is still unclear what the outcome of the relocation will be.

This comes after residents reported saw the tiger transported to his owners new home.

According to a resident who has lived next door to the owner of the tiger, which is named Tyson, and also looked after him for a month, she believes he has been kept in optimal conditions while he was kept at his Nooitgedacht home.

“Tyson’s owner treated him like gold,” exclaimed M Poolman, who wishes to remain somewhat anonymous in the article.

She goes on to say that he had adequate space when she looked after him and the SPCA confirmed that they did conduct regular inspections to ensure he was being kept in the right conditions.

“I believe they are taking him away because his owner did not have a permit to move him, but I cannot believe he is being taken away due to negligence,” added Poolman. She goes on to say that it is alleged that Tyson’s owner moved him to his new home without a permit, and sedated him in a horsebox.

Keshvi Nair, from the NSPCA Public Relations Office, explained that they are still busy conducting their investigation and that although there have been developments in the case, they are not at liberty to share them with the public at this time.

“The tiger is still at the residence currently,” added Nair, “we are all eager to have the tiger taken to safety.”

Mandy Cattanach from the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA informed the Northsider that they will also be conducting a follow-up inspection this week.

Once more information becomes available the Northsider will issue an update.
