Get to know the newest addition to the hospital's orthopaedic ward.

With 10 years of orthopaedic experience and a Mannie Lunz prize under his belt, Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr Praval Dawadi to its team of orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr Dawadi completed his undergraduate training in 2010 at the University of the Free State and underwent his internship in the Bloemfontein Academic Circuit. He carried out his community service in orthopaedic surgery at Kimberley Hospital, thereafter becoming a medical officer at Kimberly Hospital and Helen Joseph Hospital, respectively. He then completed a specialisation in 2022 and a sub-specialisation in 2023.

Outside of work, Dr Dawadi enjoys family time with his wife and two daughters.

Get to know Dr Dawadi:

Q: Why did you choose your speciality and how long have you been in this field?

A: I chose orthopaedic surgery for a few reasons:
1. get to treat people who are hurt and not necessarily sick, always rewarding to see a person get back up and moving again. As orthopaedic surgeons, we may not save lives, but we do save the quality of life.
2. The surgeries are fun and challenging, no two are ever the same.

Q: What made you choose Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital?

A: Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital is a well-known and trusted facility with a strong Orthopaedic presence with several well-known and renowned orthopaedic surgeons. I believe, as a specialist who is starting, that you couldn’t find a better environment.

Q: If you could give your patients one piece of advice, what would it be?

A: I would tell them to keep moving, do whatever exercise you can manage, but always keep your body moving.

Q: What do you do to relax and unwind?

A: I relax by spending time with my wife and two daughters, spending time in the bush and playing golf (although golf sometimes doesn’t help with relaxing).

Q: Three things not a lot of people know about you?

A: I enjoy playing video games, particularly racing games, I need to keep things clean, neat and tidy, always, and I hate being late for anything.
