Church’s first outreach for the year makes a difference
Newlands NBG church hosted a feeding scheme in Claremont.
The Newlands NBG Church recently embarked on its first outreach initiative of the year, hosting a community feeding scheme that aimed to bring hope and comfort to those in need.
On the day, dedicated church members gathered at a park on Antoinette Street, setting up a serving station to provide hotdogs, juice, and snacks for the children to take home.

Adults were also treated to freshly baked bread. The event was more than just a meal – it was an opportunity to show the community that they are seen, heard, and cared for.

“The need is big here, and it’s our mission to bridge the gap and remind people that there are still those who genuinely care,” said Cornelia Niehaus, a member of the church.
“This community has faced challenges, including gangsterism, and we want to counteract that with love and compassion.”
Following the meal service, the church members led a praise and worship session, inviting the presence of God and bringing the church to the people. This outreach effort is a testament to the church’s dedication to spreading love and kindness.

Cornelia added that their church’s approach to outreach involves dividing members into different stations, allowing them to spread out and make a broader impact.
She says they do not only do feeding schemes but they also supply clothes, bibles and sanitary to communities in need in the broader region of Roodepoort.
