SA Army empowers the next generation
The SANDF hosted a military skills recruitment drive to generate more employment opportunities.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) recently hosted a Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Recruitment Drive at the Mthonjeni Community Center in Zandspruit.

The recruitment drive, with the assistance from the South African Police Service, brought together young community members from surrounding areas, aimed at tackling the high unemployment rate in local communities by not only empowering them, but also exploring the benefits of joining the SANDF.
The recruitment drive, led by the director of acquisition, Brigadier General K Mokgothu, aimed to provide young people with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve their country while gaining valuable skills and experience. The event was a huge success, with many attendees expressing interest in joining the SANDF.

The MSDS offers a two-year training programme that provides military skills development, education, and employment benefits. Participants can join the South African Army, Air Force, Navy or Military Health Service and receive specialised training in various fields such as communications and flight operations management, firefighting, military police, defence intelligence, piloting, engineering, technical trades, medical support operations, nursing, logistics, air defence, and administration.

To be eligible for the MSDS programme, applicants must be South African citizens between 18 and 22 years old (or 23–26 with a tertiary qualification), have completed Grade 12 or be currently in Grade 12, have no criminal record, be medically and mentally fit, and demonstrate community engagement and leadership skills.
Interested applicants can submit their applications at the nearest SANDF Recruitment Office or download the application form from the SANDF website. The application form can also be obtained from regional offices.
