Help foundation distribute blankets this winter
The Johannesburg Care Foundation in Florida is in need of community's support to make a difference this winter.
The Johannesburg Care Foundation is continuing with their annual blanket drive, and this year they are hoping to distribute about 200 to 300 blankets to the elderly, children and the less fortunate.
According to Llewellyn Ryan, founder and chairperson of the organisation, the community’s support is urgently needed.
“We are looking for good quality blankets for our elderly homes in Florida and Claremont that will last the whole winter and can still be used next year,” Ryan said.
The foundation has been a beacon of hope for children and the elderly in the community since 2012. They have a soup kitchen in Claremont and the Ahmed Kathrada informal settlement, and supply sandwiches during the week and cooked meals on weekends, run and supported by a group of women volunteers.
“I started the foundation to bridge the gap for the poor and disenfranchised. The elderly and children are our main focus, mainly because of the food security they face daily,” he said.
The foundation is also involved in other initiatives, including facilitating workshops to provide a platform for high school learners to engage in meaningful debates on pressing issues such as peer pressure, alcohol, and drug abuse.

They partner with numerous community-based organisations, including the Impact Foundation, police, the Department of Education, and the Department of Correctional Services.
To support the blanket drive, the foundation is appealing for donations of all kinds, including blankets, soup ingredients, and other essential items.
