A collective roar of celebration echoed over Trezona Park on Youth Day when Florida Albion Football Club made history by qualifying for the finals of the prestigious Engen Knockout Challenge (EKOC) for the first time since the club’s formation.

Known as one of South Africa’s most competitive and elite youth soccer tournaments, the EKOC brings together the best development teams in the country, including giants like Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

FAFC finished top of their group and unbeaten in the qualifiers, securing their place among South Africa’s elite with five strong performances against the likes of Jacaranda Callies (3–0), Soweto Shining (3–0), Pheli (1–0), Sevens Academy (2–1), and Bracken City (0–0).
According to Florida Albion spokesperson Caleb Pomone, one of the tournament’s key highlights happened during the tough clash against Sevens Academy, where the boys showed incredible fight, coming back from 1–0 down to win 2–1.

Their final game ended in a 0–0 draw against Bracken City.
“It was enough to secure the top spot in the group and qualification for the main EKOC event.
“This marks a major milestone for us. With a strong presence in the Gauteng Development Promotional League (GDPL), the RCLFA Champ of Champs, RCLFA little league, and senior leagues, FAFC continues to grow as a competitive force in youth football, with a clear focus on development and creating real opportunities for players.
“We extend our thanks to the players, coaching staff, supporters, and tournament organisers for their role in this achievement,” he says.
Florida Albion now prepares to face the best of the best — and represent the community with pride on the national stage.
