Cable thieves caught in action on busy Constantia Drive

Local reaction group apprehend three alleged foreign nationals for cable theft.

Three men were arrested for allegedly stealing Telkom cables on March 4 at 21:00.

Reaction officers of Dowry Security noticed suspicious activity around a manhole on the corner of Constantia Drive and Golf Club Terrace in Constantia Kloof and investigated.

On investigation, three males who were extracting the main power lines were apprehended. Twenty-five metres of cable was cut. All three suspects were arrested and handed over to police, the company wrote on their Facebook page.

According to the security group, none of the suspects had ID to confirm their citizenship but were Sesotho-speaking individuals.

Isaac Mangena, the spokesperson for City Power, said this problem may seem more rampant in Roodepoort, but this challenge is not unique to City Power. It is also affecting Eskom, Telkom, Transnet, and other municipalities.

The Roodepoort Record is still waiting for confirmation of arrest from the Police’s District Communications Officer, Sergeant Kholo.
