Fleurs case postponed again
The six accused in connection with the murder and hijacking of football star Luke Fleurs made another court appearance.
The six accused in connection with the murder and hijacking of Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs made another appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on November 27.
Fleurs (24), at the peak of his career, was fatally shot after a hijacking at a petrol station in Constantia Kloof on April 3.
The six accused, Ndumiso Mswane (26), Fernando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36) and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu, were arrested in Slovoville, Soweto, on April 10 after the Provincial Investigating Unit and police received information on the whereabouts of Fleurs’ hijacked vehicle.
They are charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice.
During their previous appearance, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane explained briefly that the bail was denied as the accused posed a significant threat to the witnesses while the case was still under investigation.
The court further noted that DNA tests need to be conducted for Hlomikhawu. Prosecutor Arnold Limekhaya explained that the docket remains with the Director of Public Prosecutors awaiting the DNA results.
The case was therefore postponed to January 29 for further investigations.
