A gruesome murder outside a tavern in Princess Informal Settlement, which was caught on camera, went viral on social media.
An assailant repeatedly stabbed another man in full view of patrons outside the Ramafamba tavern on January 18 and then proceeded to mutilate the body, removing intestines and body parts, all while people can be seen scurrying past the scene.
According to Colonel Clive de Freitas from the Roodepoort Police Station, patrons of the tavern were making their exit from the establishment at the close of business and came upon the brutal scene.
“They rushed back inside in fear, whereupon the owner of the tavern called the police. The suspect ran away.
“Police officers reacted quickly to the scene and after intense investigations, managed to track down and arrest the man in Balfour, Mpumalanga on January 30.
“The Lesotho national told police that he murdered out of revenge after the victim had allegedly murdered someone close to him some time previously in Delmas,” De Freitas said.
He said it is regrettable that someone posted the gruesome footage on social media, and has urged people not to share the video.
“The suspect appeared in court on February 11, and I think it is best to let the law take its course,” he concluded.
