Illegal drilling operation foiled in Roodekrans
Johannesburg Metro Police Department cracks down on illegal drilling operations.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) arrested one individual on Wednesday, March 5, involved in an illegal borehole drilling activity.

According to a statement sent to the Roodepoort Record by JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, their officers, accompanied by the Citizen Relationship and Urban Management Unit, arrived at the property only to find the drilling operation in progress.
However, the property owner and the necessary documentation were nowhere to be found, and the drilling company also failed to provide proof of compliance with essential city by-laws.
“The driver of the borehole truck was taken into custody and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station on charges of damaging infrastructure. The JMPD officers also compounded the borehole truck due to the absence of a valid license disc and number plates.
“We urge all residents and contractors to ensure they comply with all relevant regulations before undertaking any drilling or construction activities,” reads the statement.
