Cable thieves caught red-handed

The quick co-ordination between private security companies and law enforcement led to all suspects being successfully apprehended.

Cable thieves were caught red-handed on the morning of Friday, April 11, thanks to the fast response of Absolut Security and several other service providers.

According to Elmien Parker from Absolut Security, the team received a tip-off from one of their clients about suspicious activity in the area at 10:30. Their armed response team was immediately sent out and arrived to find suspects already in the process of stealing electrical cables.

Although the cables had been removed, the team managed to recover them on-site.

“Several were arrested on the spot, while others attempted to flee. One man was later found hiding in a manhole and taken into custody,” she said.

“A call for backup was sent through the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network (CCIN) group, prompting a strong and professional response from BCI Protection Services, Beagle Watch, EC Security, FADT, police, and JMPD. This is a great example of what can be achieved when we work together,” said Parker.

“We’re grateful for the swift action and professionalism shown by everyone involved.”

She adds that the police have opened a criminal docket, and investigations are ongoing.
