Dog poisoning cases spike

EC Security sends warnings as there's a spike in dog poisonings linked to criminal activity.

EC Security has issued a warning to residents of Roodepoort about an alarming spike in dog poisonings in the area.

According to the company, this disturbing trend is often linked to attempts by criminals to gain access to properties for illicit purposes.

Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA manager Mandy Cattanach confirmed the recent rise in reported dog poisoning cases.

To stay safe, residents are advised to:

1. Keep pets away from perimeter fences at all times
2. Bring them indoors at night
3. Check yards daily for suspicious food or packaging
4. Report suspicious activity near homes or in streets

If poisoning is suspected:

1.Rush the pet to the vet immediately with a sample of the poison
2. Alert security providers and neighbours
