Wanted suspect nabbed in Wilro Park

Roodepoort police and community patrollers managed to arrest a suspect with more than 10 cases against him.

Police and community patrollers scored a huge success when they managed to arrest a man connected with numerous house robbery cases throughout Gauteng.

According to Sector Specialised Operation Patrollers (SSOP) chairperson Leon Marinus, they received an alert through one of their many license plate recognition (LPR) cameras installed throughout their area of operation that a flagged vehicle had entered the area.

“We immediately alerted the police, who confirmed that the vehicle is wanted in connection with a house robbery case in Vereeniging.

Marinus said the Roodepoort police, in the form of Sector 1 manager Warrant Officer Johan Loots, and SSOP patrollers responded and managed to locate the vehicle parked at Wilrogate Shopping Centre.

Roodepoort police’s Sector One manager, Warrant Officer Johan Loots with SSOP chairperson, Leon Marinus.

“There was one person already in the car. Another joined him after a few minutes, and the vehicle pulled away.

“Working together with the police, we managed to pull the vehicle over.

“A search of the vehicle revealed nothing, but closer inspection revealed that the driver has more than 10 other cases against him.

“Both driver and passenger were arrested at the scene at taken to Roodepoort Police Station, and were later transferred to Vereeniging.”

“The vehicle was also confiscated and booked into evidence,” adds Loots.

Marinus is full of praise for the quick response and professional conduct of the Roodepoort police.

“This goes to show the success we can achieve when police and community organisations work hand in hand to fight crime in our neighbourhoods.”
