Police make massive arrests in Honeydew operation
A co-ordinated operation nets hundreds of wanted suspects as part of the Safer Festive Season campaign.
The police have made a series of major arrests during a multidisciplinary High-Density Operation in Honeydew on October 25.
Led by Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, he has produced significant results within days, showcasing the effectiveness of co-ordinated law enforcement actions across the province. During a major roadblock, officers arrested more than 20 motorists for drunk driving, while over 50 undocumented immigrants were detained for verification and processing by immigration authorities.

In a clampdown on illegal alcohol trading, police closed 18 liquor outlets found to violate the Liquor Act, and an additional five outlets were shut down after officers discovered illegal drugs on the premises. Running parallel to these operations, provincial detectives executed a large-scale overnight sweep, arresting 700 wanted suspects, including 152 individuals linked to crimes against women and children.
According to Mthombeni, the ongoing operation forms a critical part of the Safer Festive Season campaign, which focuses on reducing serious crimes, enforcing road safety, and ensuring compliance with laws governing businesses and public behaviour.

“These operations are a clear message to criminals that law enforcement remains vigilant and proactive. Our communities deserve to feel safe during the festive season and beyond,” said Mthombeni.
