State ready for pre-trial in Meek case
Tiffany Nicole Meek (31) appeared for the first time in the Johannesburg High Court.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the state is ready for a pre-trial hearing in the Tiffany Nicole Meek (31) case.
Mjonondwane briefed the media on November 20 at the Johannesburg High Court, where Meek made her first appearance.
“We have disclosed the context of the docket to the defence team, and as a state, we are ready to proceed to the pre-trial stage. However, what is left for us is to complete our Section 220 admissions,” she said.

According to research from the University of Cape Town, Section 220 of the Criminal Procedure Act 1977 deals with admissions of fact in criminal proceedings. An accused person, their legal representative, or the prosecutor may admit any fact, and that admission is considered sufficient proof of that fact, which helps to streamline trials.

Meek is accused of murdering her son, Jayden-Lee Meek (11), in May. An additional charge of child abuse/ negligence was added to her charges, and she is now facing five charges: murder, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice, and child abuse.
She will remain in custody, and the case will continue on December 3.
