Woman shot dead at Corlett and Ontdekkers intersection

Police are gathering statements from bystanders and eyewitnesses as detectives analyse evidence and pursue early clues.

Traffic was brought to a standstill this morning, December 8, at the intersection of Corlett Avenue and Ontdekkers Road after a woman was shot and killed while sitting in her car at a traffic light.

The victim, driving a grey Kia Rio, was reportedly waiting for the light to change on Corlett Avenue at Ontdekkers Road when an unknown assailant fired at least four shots through the closed driver’s side window.

In response to the incident, police closed Corlett Avenue between Albertina Sisulu Road, resulting in significant traffic congestion.

Officers at the scene provided limited information, stating that they are currently interviewing eyewitnesses and following up on leads.

The Roodepoort Record has contacted provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo for additional comments, which will be included in a follow-up article.
