Crime rate drops in Roodepoort

The Roodepoort Sector 1 Crime Forum meeting revealed good news regarding crime statistics.

Crime is on the decline in Sector 1, Roodepoort, thanks to close cooperation between police, neighbourhood watch groups, and local security companies, a recent meeting revealed.

The Roodepoort Sector 1 Crime Forum met on Tuesday, February 24, at the NG Roodekrans church in Azalea Avenue – its first gathering since November. Residents, patrollers, and security company representatives came together to review progress and discuss safety concerns.

Police Sector 1 manager Warrant Officer Johan Loots praised the community’s vigilance during the festive season and early 2026.
“We are seeing very encouraging statistics emerge, largely due to the dedication of our patrollers and the support of local security companies,” he said.

Roodepoort Police Sector 1 manager, Warrant Officer Johan Loots.

Loots added that Roodepoort Police Station is no longer among the country’s 30 police stations with the highest crime rates. He credited strong management and persistent patrolling for stabilising crime in Tshepisong, a sector added last year.

Despite the overall drop in crime, security companies reported a home invasion in Roodekrans last Sunday. Quick response by local patrollers and SSOP members led to the same-day recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of one suspect.

“While crime is down, it remains imperative for all of us to stay vigilant and work together to keep it that way,” said SSOP chairperson Leon Marinus.
