Cupido's sentencing for child abuse case postponed

CCTV footage of the violent attack is expected to be played in court.

Fernando ‘Nando’ Cupido, convicted of beating a two-year-old boy at a residential complex in Florida last year, in which, among other injuries, the child’s leg was broken, has once again had his sentencing delayed.

During his appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on April 20, a social worker from the Department of Corrections eventually submitted the report that has resulted in the case being postponed twice already.

According to the child’s family members, court proceedings were lengthy and demanding, with the magistrate expressing frustration at the constant postponements.

The case has been postponed to May 4, where the prosecution is expected to display footage of the violent attack caught on the CCTV system of the complex where the incident occurred.

Cupido, who went into hiding for nearly a month after the incident, was eventually tracked down and arrested at a house in Randfontein.

“The magistrate has expressed his hope that the sentencing can be finalised at the next, and hopefully last, appearance on May 4, then our family can rest assured that justice was done for the child and hopefully move on with our lives,” one family member said.
