The man was found inside the manhole and in possession of stolen cables.

One person was arrested early on May 3, after an attempted cable theft from a manhole in Bergbron.

According to Beagle Watch’s area manager Cobus Botes, one of their patrol officers was flagged down by a security guard who reported suspicious individuals inside a nearby manhole.

“As our officer and the guard approached the manhole, the driver of a white Toyota sped off with two occupants, while two others remained underground.
