Thieves nabbed in JMPD crackdown

Stolen goods were recovered at properties in Northcliff and Witpoortjie.

Two people were arrested by JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU) on Wednesday, May 13, for possession of stolen property.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the officers, following leads from an intelligence-led operation, tracked a woman to Flora Shopping Centre, where she was intercepted while attempting to secure a buyer for several stolen items.

The investigation led officers to a workplace in Northcliff, where a man was also arrested for being in possession of stolen items, including cellular phones.

“Further interrogation of the suspects revealed that additional illicit goods were being stored at a residential address,” says Fihla.

“Members proceeded to Witpoortjie, where they successfully recovered laptops, smart TVs and multiple cellphones.

“While several items were recovered, it was established that a portion of the stolen inventory had been sold at various locations before the arrival of the police.“Both individuals were formally charged with possession of suspected stolen property and are expected to appear in court soon.

“JMPD will continue to work tirelessly with our partners at the police to ensure that those who profit from the theft of citizens’ property are brought to justice,” he concludes.
