Vehicle linked to theft case intercepted in Weltevreden Park

A swift response led to the recovery of a vehicle linked to theft through License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology and CCTV monitoring.

A vehicle linked to a theft case was successfully intercepted in Weltevreden Park on Thursday, May 14, following a co-ordinated response involving License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, CCTV monitoring, and on-the-ground response officers.

According to Beagle Warch’s operations manager Cobus Botes, the vehicle was flagged by the area’s LPR system as it travelled towards Jim Fouché Road. Real-time updates from the CCTV control room enabled response teams to track the vehicle’s movements and co-ordinate an interception.

“Response officers located the vehicle and intercepted it outside a residential complex while the driver was reportedly dropping off a passenger. The driver allegedly denied any knowledge of the theft case connected to the vehicle,” said Botes.

JMPD was notified and responded to the scene. Authorities escorted both the driver and the vehicle to Honeydew Police Station, where formal profiling and further investigation were conducted.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
