Three arrested after hijacked vehicle recovered in Lindhaven
Three men were arrested after a high-speed chase through Roodepoort ended in a crash, leading to the recovery of a hijacked vehicle.
Three suspects were arrested on the corner of South Road and Cypress Street on Friday, July 17, after they were found in possession of a vehicle that had reportedly been hijacked earlier this week.
According to the Gauteng Traffic Police’s (GTP) Saturation Unit, officers received information that the vehicle had been hijacked in Roodepoort and was located in Lindhaven, next to the Princess informal settlement.
Acting on the information, GTP officers and a vehicle tracking company responded to the area, where they found the vehicle parked with its engine idling.

When the suspects noticed the approaching officers, they allegedly fled, prompting a high-speed chase from the Princess informal settlement towards South Road. The pursuit ended when the suspects’ vehicle collided with another vehicle in Greenshank Street.
A third vehicle travelling along South Road sustained damage to a side mirror during the collision.
The three suspects were arrested at the scene, and the hijacked vehicle was recovered.
Although traffic was heavily affected, no fatalities or injuries were reported.
“The Gauteng Department of Community Safety commends the co-ordinated efforts of the GTP and Cartrack for their swift response in successfully recovering the hijacked vehicle and arresting the suspects.
“This operation demonstrates the value of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private sector partners in combating vehicle-related crime and enhancing public safety,” said Department of Community Safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane.
