The trial of a mother accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden Lee Meek, has been postponed to October at the Johannesburg High Court, sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, because the state prosecutor fell ill.

Tiffany Nicole Meek appeared on Monday, September 14, for the continuation of her trial.

The state alleges Meek killed her son after she initially reported him missing, claiming he failed to return home from school in May 2025.

As she stands trial, she is facing charges of murder, crimen injuria and defeating the ends of justice.

Several state witnesses have testified, including Jayden’s teacher and a transport driver. The transport driver told the court Meek accused him of involvement in her son’s disappearance, which caused him to lose business and face community ostracisation.

During the previous appearance in August, the court conducted an inspection in loco at the apartment building to establish key points for the trial.

The court is expected to review findings from the apartment building when proceedings resume on October 26 and 27.

Meek remains in custody.
