Edmund Road left in disrepair

While other roads see fresh repairs, Edmund Road residents are left to dodge potholes.

The potholes on Edmund Road remain unrepaired, making life increasingly difficult for residents who say they have been waiting months for action.

In May, the Roodepoort Northsider reported on hazardous potholes, highlighting growing frustration among residents. At the time, Ward 89 Councillor Zander Shawe raised concerns about the deteriorating state of several key routes, including Constantia and Panorama Drive, Edmund and Pauline Road, and Duiker Street.

“It’s not just inconvenient; it’s dangerous,” Shawe said. “Residents have to zigzag across the road to avoid the worst of it. One resident who lives opposite a large pothole can’t even leave their yard without fearing damage to their car.”

Tanya Venter, who lives on Edmund Road, said the neglected stretch has already cost her thousands in vehicle repairs.

“My vehicle’s shock absorbers are damaged, and I’ve had to replace a tyre because of these potholes,” Venter said.

“We reported this before the Northsider article was even published, but nothing’s changed.”

The road’s neglected state has raised questions about inconsistent service delivery and prioritisation of repairs. While the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) temporarily patched potholes on Pauline Street, Edmund continues to deteriorate.

The Northsider has contacted the JRA for comment, and a follow-up report will be published once a response is received.
