Residents meet with JRA to tackle Maraisburg’s wounding issues
Members of the residents association, alongside Hands of Maraisburg members, voice their concerns during a meeting with JRA.
The Maraisburg Resident Association (MRA) recently met with Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) Region B representative, Dimakatso Mafulako, to highlight pressing issues affecting the area.
The meeting, which included a site visit with a Hands of Maraisburg representative, aimed to bring attention to the plaguing problems in the area.
One of the key concerns raised was the rampant illegal dumping, particularly in the open space on Shamrock Street.

Fayroza Wadvalla from MRA emphasised the need for bollards to secure the area, as guard rails are often stolen for scrap.
The team also pointed out that reeds are growing in the street in lower Shamrock, between a filling station and an old-age home, which requires clearing because they block vision for motorists. There was also a drain that needed to be unblocked.

The group visited a notorious spot between Albertina Sisulu Road and 8th Street, where accidents are a common occurrence. The residents urged the installation of speed bumps to reduce the risk of accidents.
Mafulako acknowledged the concerns and assured the community that they would be addressed with higher management. A follow-up meeting will be held to provide feedback on the progress.
