JRA fixes missing drain covers

The repairs have brought relief as deep drains are no longer a concern for residents.

Panorama residents can now walk a little more easily after several missing stormwater drain covers were replaced in the area. The work was carried out by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on Monday, January 12, following efforts by the Panorama Residents Association (PRA).

According to the PRA deputy chairperson, Michael Steyn, the missing covers had left deep, open drains, which posed a serious risk of injury to anyone nearby. The JRA team initially came to replace a large drain cover and a smaller one, but found four more missing covers in the area. They returned to collect the extra covers and successfully installed them all, improving safety for the community.

Michael also praised the collaboration between the entity and RA, saying that this shows how residents and the City of Johannesburg departments can work together to solve problems.

“The community’s safety is now much better thanks to quick action by the JRA,” he said.

The JRA also confirmed that all the raised ongoing concerns about potholes in the area will be addressed, and repairs will continue once the processing plant reopens. Residents are encouraged to support the PRA, which relies on membership contributions where members pay R270 a month to fund community projects.
