The elderly givers of life and love were invited to spend the morning with the youngest members of their extended families on the lawns of the Vintage Street school. As well a picnic in the sunshine, young and old were treated to line-dancing exhibition by Randburg-based Rainbow Line Dancing. Veterans of the group formation dancing sport, Rainbow regularly send dancers to compete on the international stage and they sent three members who treated the school to a few basic moves.

Rainbow Line Dancing have specially designed a 16-step dance routine for kids but before they attempted that, began with a seated lesson. The chair dance enables the little ones to gain their rhythm without having to worry about footwork and position. Many members are grandparents themselves and Rainbow Line Dancing have daily demonstrations while providing lessons to both groups and individuals looking to fine tune their stepping.

The day was focused on the senior generation but many parents snuck in too in order to share the family atmosphere. The Castle’s Principal, Megan Gaertz, articulated the significance of grandparents, saying, “They are the pillars of any family. The bond between grandparent and grandchild creates the happiest memories in life. They are the legacy these children live for”.
