Marinett proudly supports RUA

"The toys and activities are all handmade and usually go with an overall theme."

A retired high school teacher, Marinett Crous, 59, has been a proud supporter of the infamous Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary since the day she heard of them.

Not only is she one of the few community members who volunteer their time at the sanctuary, but she also goes the extra mile by reading to one our their oldest donkeys, Grace.

“I started by reading to her in the evenings and recently it is more of a chat session as I keep her company and tell her about my day,” explained Marinett.

Her support doesn’t stop there, in November of 2021 she also created a fun and interactive lucky packet, fondly named the Kick Ass Lucky Packets that she sells at Norbert’s German Butchery and Deli to help raise funds for Grace and the rest of the jacks and jennies at the sanctuary. Each packet contains something sweet, something salty something sour, and something to drink with a fun activity, stickers, pencil, balloon, and/or toy included.

“The toys and activities are all handmade and usually go with an overall theme,” added Marinett fondly. She has always had a knack for being creative and has since been enjoying the different crafts and creations she’s made for these packets.

These lucky packets are only R35 a packet and the profit, approximately R15, goes to Grace at RUA. Marinett is grateful to be able to help and support the RUA donkeys as they have a special place in her heart.
