1Spot for local fault reporting
1Spot is available for download on all devices from all mobile app stores.
Electricity and water problems have become commonplace across the Northside. As if load-shedding is not enough, it now seems that City Power is struggling with not only replacing stolen cables but also the upkeep thereof.
One of the most common issues that keep arising is the reporting and escalation of outages. A new app, conceptualised by WRAP Residents Association chairperson Martin van der Westhuizen, aims to make reporting easy and effective and traceable.
“We initially designed the 1Spot App to enable residents to have fast and effective contact with their resident’s associations and CPF representatives,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“When electricity and water issues became more prominent in the area, we thought it good to add direct links to the relevant authorities. By using the free app, not only can you log your fault and receive a reference number, but we can over time measure the type and number of faults logged. We can also track issues within our areas and exert some pressure on the local authorities from the RAs’ side.”
According to Van der Westhuizen, the data gathered from the app will allow the RAs to pinpoint recurring problems and trends and effectively escalate these for attention.
“The entire area has been prone to electricity outages, sometimes for days on end. Cable theft and vandalism have emerged as a major threat to local communities. As has water instability, vagrancy, and petty crime.
“You can report all of the above and much more directly through the mobile app. Just create an account and search for City of Johannesburg Residents Associations.”
