Cansa holds free screening in Florida as part of Close the Care Gap campaign

Cansa tries to bridge the gap in cancer care services with a campaign and free screening for those who cannot afford it.

On February 5, Cansa hosted a free screening for cancer at Ons Huis for those living in the home as well as any person from the community as part of their Close the Care Gap campaign.

Olivia Curlewis, service manager for Cansa for various areas stated, “It is important to offer community screening as the community often does not have access or funds for screening, and early diagnosis leads to a better prognosis. It also promotes a healthy lifestyle which reduces your cancer risk.”

She noted the screening was sponsored by Avon for clinical breast examinations and Hollard for prostate cancer tests. All with the focus on World Cancer Day which was on February 4.

Olivia explained this is the third year of the campaign which is aimed at highlighting the inequalities in the access to essential cancer services across the world.

“Cansa places the spotlight on World Cancer Day, led by the Union for International Cancer Control, to mobilise urgent action to improve cancer risk awareness, treatment, and care services for all individuals, regardless of who they are and where they live.”
