Lions Club hold big walk for brave warriors

The clubs have banded together to raise funds for the fight against childhood cancer.

Multiple Lions Clubs banded together to hold a Big Walk for Little Warriors event in aid of children suffering from childhood cancer.

The walk took place at Cradle Moon where brave hikers, young and old, took on the challenging 5km trail on Saturday, February 23.

According to Sandy van Heerden, PRO for the Wilro Lions, the clubs of Wilro Park, Helderkruin, Clearwater Cyber, Lenasia Branch Club, Weltevreden Park, and Northcliff were involved in organising the walk.

“This will become an annual event on the Lions Club calendar every year,” she says, adding that Lions Club throughout South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini also took part in walks throughout their respective areas.

“February is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; these events help raise awareness for childhood cancer and the early warning signs because early diagnosis means the lives of many more children can be saved.”

Sandy says that childhood cancer is one of the Lions’ global pillars of service and a topic that weighs heavy on the hearts of members everywhere.

Even though it was a very hot day, the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC) Cow Mascot was there selling FlipFlop stickers, which is one of CHOC’s fundraising projects.
