Community comes together to fight poverty

Northridge Ladies Circle 7 and Just in Time Baby Sanctuary hosts winter clothing drive for those in need.

Northridge Ladies Circle 7 in collaboration with Just in Time Baby Sanctuary recently hosted a winter clothing drive to help young boys and girls with winter clothes and blankets.

In South Africa, poverty is increasing daily. As of October 2023, Statistics SA has reported that 18.2 million individuals in the nation are living in extreme poverty.

Just in Time Baby Sanctuary helps and provides a safe place for abandoned and abused babies in a safe, loving and nurturing environment.

“This collection helps to support the kids that have been living at the sanctuary with much-needed winter clothing which the house mother cannot afford to purchase,” Northridge Ladies Circle 7 treasurer Sue-Mari Warren said.

The primary objective of the organisation is to provide homeless individuals with dignity by using volunteer support to help them feel important and welcomed rather than disregarded and abandoned.

The organisation currently helps around six children in the community and the collection drive managed to bring the community together.

“The collection drive was successful because we received many gifts and managed to get five bags full of clothing for the kids,” she added.

This was a once-off initiative for winter clothes. However, the sanctuary still needs more donations. The organisation urges individuals to contact them via email at warrensuemari@gmail.com or send a WhatsApp to 061 27 2653 at any time for donations and invites women aged between 18 to 45 who are interested to join them.
