Golden oldies enjoy musical concert from legendary singer
Seniors and community members were transported back to their younger days by the legendary tenor Manuel Escórcio.
The Wilro Park Retirement Village invited the performer and singer, tenor Manuel Escórcio to spend a day in their centre and share some music.
According to catering manager Arnold Piater, the centre tries to entertain the elderly of the centre as often as possible.
“The retirement centre hosts events monthly to get them out of their homes and among other residences so more interaction can take place. Everybody that came to the event was very happy to be there. Especially after we had to cancel the previous event two years ago,” Arnold added.
The event was also packed with some neighbouring residents attending. Excitement and laughter filled the hall as the Order of Prince Henry award winner, which Manuel was awarded in 1981, shared jokes with the audience.
“It makes me feel good to spend a day with people I used to learn a lot from, that is why I honoured and respected the invitation from the centre. These are my people because they understand the taste of my music and you it brings a long overdue smile to their faces,” Manuel said.
Manuel blessed the audience with a live performance of his songs from various albums and also performed songs from other artists. Seniors and community members were taken back to the 60s, 70s and 80s by Manuel’s performance which also got them clapping and dancing along.
“This was a successful and exciting event because my mission was to bring some laughter and good music to our community and you could see them clapping and singing along because they feel the songs,” he added.
Later, mouthwatering food and drinks prepared by the centre were enjoyed. The retirement village will host a Mother’s Day event on May 12 to honour senior moms in the centre.
